The Netherlands secured an emphatic 5–1 victory over Sweden in a crucial Group F match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Houston Stadium.
The Dutch wasted no time asserting their dominance. Just five minutes into the match, Brian Brobbey finished off a well-worked team move after being picked out by Cody Gakpo to give the Oranje an early lead. Brobbey struck again in the 17th minute, turning home a low cross from Denzel Dumfries to put the Netherlands firmly in control.
Sweden struggled to cope with the Dutch intensity but nearly found a way back before halftime. Gustaf Lagerbielke headed the ball into the net in the 45th minute, only for the effort to be disallowed for offside.

Any hopes of a Swedish comeback disappeared shortly after the break. Gakpo made it 3-0 in the 48th minute by converting another dangerous delivery from Dumfries, before adding his second goal of the afternoon six minutes later with a clinical left-footed finish.
Substitute Anthony Elanga pulled one back for Sweden in the 59th minute, making an immediate impact after entering the match. The final stages brought further pressure from the Netherlands, with chances continuing to flow. Crysencio Summerville was also able to get on the scoresheet in the 89th minute, capping off a dominant attacking display.
The result moves the Netherlands onto four points and puts them in a strong position to reach the knockout rounds, while Sweden remain on three points and still have qualification hopes heading into their final group-stage match.
