Ecuador and Curaçao played out a scoreless draw in their second Group E match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Kansas City Stadium.
With both sides coming off defeats in their opening fixtures, Ecuador started brightly and took the initiative from the opening whistle. Led by key players including Willian Pacho, Piero Hincapié, Moisés Caicedo and captain Enner Valencia, La Tri created several promising opportunities but lacked the finishing touch.
The best chance of the first half came in the third minute when Valencia broke through the Curaçao defense and found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Eloy Room. However, the experienced shot-stopper produced an outstanding save to keep the scores level. Room continued to frustrate Ecuador throughout the half with a series of important interventions as the teams went into the break tied at 0-0.
Ecuador maintained its attacking momentum after halftime, but Curaçao's goalkeeper delivered a near-perfect performance, denying every attempt that came his way. Despite recording 15 shots on target, Ecuador was unable to find a breakthrough and ultimately had to settle for a point.
The result not only left Ecuador still searching for its first victory of the tournament, but also secured Curaçao's first-ever point in FIFA World Cup history.
